COLUMBIA, Ky. (05/09/2025) — The Lindsey Wilson College nursing program concluded one of its busiest and most successful school years on May 1 by welcoming eight new members into its chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nursing.

Known as Sigma, the 103-year-old honor society's members include clinical nurses and administrators, academic nurse educators and researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and others working to fulfill the organization's vision of connected, empowered nurse leaders transforming global healthcare.

Lindsey Wilson's Alpha Alpha Iota chapter of Sigma held its induction ceremony for seven nursing students and one nursing professional in the college's V.P. Henry Auditorium on May 1, the eve of the college's spring commencement weekend.

Students inducted into Sigma have completed half of their school's nursing curriculum, rank academically in the top third of their cohort and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; nurse leaders inducted must be legally recognized to practice nursing, hold a baccalaureate degree and demonstrate achievement in nursing.

Inducted into Sigma were:

* Jaylyn Burton '26 of Columbia;

* Tamara Coots '13, Lindsey Wilson director of health services and a member of the nursing faculty;

* Anna Dangelmaier '26 of Liberty, Kentucky;

* Emilee Flatt '25 of Columbia;

* Abbie Nunn '26 of Smiths Grove, Kentucky;

* Kaylyn Smith '26 of Campbellsville, Kentucky;

* Destiny Whitaker '25 of Somerset, Kentucky;

* and Jared Wyatt '26 of Glasgow, Kentucky.

The Sigma induction ceremony capped off a busy school year for nursing at Lindsey Wilson. In addition to pinning their dozen graduates in the Class of 2025, the program celebrated a 100% pass rate for its 2024 graduates who took the National Council Licensure Examination, the nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States; received a grant from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund to establish a healthcare training scholarship partnership between the college and T.J. Regional Health of Glasgow; was named the No. 1 nursing program in Kentucky in 2023 by Nurse.org in the group's inaugural "Top Nursing Schools -- Student Choice Awards" contest; and announced an online RN to BSN program that will start this fall.
