Lindsey Wilson University Counseling Professor Honored for Work with Journal
Patrick Hardesty recognized for contributions to Psychology of Religion and Spirituality journal.
COLUMBIA, Ky. (08/11/2026) — Lindsey Wilson University counseling professor Patrick Hardesty believes in paying it forward as a way to help promote scholarship and research in his discipline.
Hardesty was recently recognized for his support of new scholarship when he was named one of three top ad hoc reviewers of the journal Psychology of Religion and Spirituality.
Psychology of Religion and Spirituality publishes peer-reviewed, original articles related to psychological aspects of religion and spirituality. Hardesty is among three ad hoc reviewers whose contributions the journal's editors identified as greatly assisting the publication from January 2023 through June 2026.
The three ad hoc reviewers were singled out by the journal based on the percentage of invitations to review they accepted, completion and timely submission of reviews, and the quality of reviews as judged by the journal's associate editors.
"I'm honored that they appreciate the work I have done over the years for the journal," said Hardesty, who is also the program director of Lindsey Wilson's doctoral program in counselor education and supervision. "I know that if people don't volunteer to review articles that have been submitted, journals will suffer.
"Besides, people are going to review manuscripts that I submit to journals, so whenever I review an article for a journal it's like I am paying it forward."
Hardesty estimates that he reviews about a dozen manuscripts a year for professional journals.
"I'm still a student, because when you review an article you often have to learn more about that topic in order to fairly evaluate the work," said Hardesty. "I learn new things all the time because of the manuscripts I have reviewed for journals, including about topics that I might not have chosen to read about on my own."
Hardesty said that another benefit of reviewing manuscripts submitted to journals is that he is often exposed earlier to emerging concepts and ideas that might not yet be in the material he uses for the graduate classes he teaches at Lindsey Wilson.
"Some of the subjects I teach come from what I've just read for a journal," said Hardesty.
