COLUMBIA, Ky. (10/01/2025) — Lindsey Wilson University is preparing to be invaded by hundreds of ghosts, goblins, superheroes, princesses and cartoon characters.

The invasion will take place on Friday, Oct. 31, when the university holds its 31st annual "Safe Halloween."

The trick-or-treat event will begin at 6 p.m. CT, with groups departing the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 299 Williams St., until 9 p.m. CT. The free event is open to area children and their family members.

"This is always one of the big fall events that our students look forward to," said Director of Student Activities Stephanie Blackwood. "Our students love to interact with members of the community, and 'Safe Halloween' is a great way to bring the university and community together."

Children and their family members will be led through four decorated residence halls, where residents will hand out store-bought, packaged candy. While waiting in the Holloway Health & Wellness Center, Lindsey Wilson students will offer activities and games for children. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.

"Safe Halloween," which is sponsored by the university's Office of Residence Life, has mushroomed from attracting a few dozen guests in its early years to hosting hundreds of guests annually from throughout the region.

"Our students look forward to the event as much as the children do," said Blackwood. "They love getting dressed up in costumes, and they are so creative with how they decorate their residence halls. Families like it because it offers children a safe, fun atmosphere to enjoy Halloween. And children love it because they come away with a bag full of candy."
