Lindsey Wilson University School of Mathematics & Sciences Launches Journal of Mathematics and Sciences
'Giving our students an opportunity like this to showcase their work fills a gap in our school.'
COLUMBIA, Ky. (09/04/2026) — Lindsey Wilson University students in the School of Mathematics & Sciences now have a new outlet to showcase their research.
The Lindsey Wilson Journal of Mathematics and Sciences debuted at the start of the fall semester, and the first issue of the multidisciplinary journal features 23 articles from the disciplines of biology, mathematics and psychology.
"Our students do a lot of good work, while they're here in our programs and beyond," said Brittany Barnett, a psychology faculty member who also serves as the journal's managing editor.
Barnett said that introducing the Lindsey Wilson Journal of Mathematics and Sciences "fills a gap in our school," which includes the disciplines of chemistry, engineering mechanics, mathematics, physics, psychology, psychophysiology, and sustainability and environmental studies.
"Giving our students an opportunity like this to showcase their work fills a gap in our school," she said. "This is a great way for our students to share their work at Lindsey Wilson, as well as when they apply to graduate school or move into their careers.
"We already do a lot of things to showcase our students, such as honors projects and capstone projects in the spring. This is just another opportunity for our students to showcase their work, both on and off campus."
Assisting Barnett with the publication are fellow psychology faculty members John LaGrange and William P. Neace, both of whom serve as the journal's production editors.
Barnett said the idea for the journal came from Neace, who is also dean of the School of Mathematics & Sciences.
"Bill is always interested in finding more opportunities to support our students and promote their work," said Barnett. "His idea provides a great opportunity for our students."
In addition to promoting current students' work, the journal's editors hope that it will also appeal to prospective students.
"As students are exploring opportunities in the Lindsey Wilson School of Mathematics & Sciences, we hope this will be an opportunity that will interest them," said Barnett.
Barnett said she hopes that students from other disciplines in the school will submit pieces for consideration.
"As this grows, we hope students will become more interested in publishing because it's a wonderful way to let people outside of the school know about the exciting things taking place in the School of Mathematics & Sciences."
