Shelby County Resident Morgan Bryant Named Lindsey Wilson College John B. Begley Scholar

Bryant is a graduate of Martha Layne Collins High School and the daughter of Bonnie Bryant.

COLUMBIA, Ky. (04/21/2025) — A Shelby County resident has been awarded the most prestigious scholarship at Lindsey Wilson College.

Morgan Bryant '26 of Shelbyville, Kentucky, has been named a John B. Begley Scholar at Lindsey Wilson.

The Begley Scholarship is a full-tuition, room-and-board scholarship that provides students with an unparalleled academic- and cultural-enrichment experience.

An English and history double major with a minor in women's and gender studies, Bryant is a graduate of Martha Layne Collins High School and the daughter of Bonnie Bryant.

Bryant said that being named a Begley Scholar "demonstrates the immense love that this campus provides."

"I would have never applied if it wasn't for the support of my amazing professors and friends, especially in the English and history departments," said Bryant "It shows that this community really is family. It illustrates that Lindsey Wilson continues to be a strong and incredible campus, and that it provides these incredible opportunities and scholarships to its student body that would have been unheard of anywhere else."

During her three years at Lindsey Wilson, Bryant has been very active on campus. A member of the R.V. Bennett Honors Society, Bryant is an executive board member of the Lindsey Wilson chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Honors Society; a three-year student editor of Alpha Kappa Phi Review, Lindsey Wilson's academic journal, including co-editor-in-chief of of the spring 2025 volume; student editor of Orpheus, Lindsey Wilson's literary journal; founder and executive board member of the Lindsey WIlson History Club; and a consultant at the Lindsey WIlson Writing Center.

She has received numerous scholarships from the college and has presented papers at the the Sigma Tau Delta national convention, Kentucky Honors Roundtable, Lindsey Wilson R.V. Bennett Society Honors Symposium and Lindsey Wilson Kara Mollis Conference on Women's and Gender Studies,

The Begley Scholarship is one of the most unique college scholarships in higher education. Begley Scholars take enrichment trips to Earnest Hemmingway's four "Great American Cities" -- Chicago, New York, New Orleans and San Francisco -- and take part in cultural learning opportunities alongside Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. and First Lady Elise Luckey, who serve as directors of the Begley Scholars Program. Regular meetings and discussions about current events are also held in the Emily Hundley President's Home.

Lindsey Wilson College is a vibrant liberal arts college in Columbia, Kentucky. Founded in 1903 and affiliated with The United Methodist Church, the mission of Lindsey WIlson is to serve the educational needs of students by providing a living-learning environment within an atmosphere of active caring and Christian concern where every student, every day, learns and grows and feels like a real human being.
