Program to include pieces by Mozart, Liszt and Brahms.

COLUMBIA, Ky. (10/19/2026) — Area residents will have an opportunity to take an afternoon break on Oct. 20 by enjoying a musical potpourri performed by one of Kentucky's accomplished pianists.

Pianist Nada will give a recital at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

Pianist Nada is the stage name of Nada Loutfi, an American citizen of Lebanese-Hungarian descent with a French musical education who now makes her home in Louisville, Kentucky.

Loutfi will perform a selection of pieces that range from the 18th to 21st century. The program includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Sonata in D Major," "Variations on a Theme by Jean Langlais," by Naji Hakim, Franz Liszt's "Fantasy and Fugue on the Theme B-A-C-H" and Johannes Brahms' Sonata "No. 1 in C Major."

Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Loutfi's piano training was deeply affected by the Lebanon Civil War of 1975-90, in which more than 100,000 people were killed and 1 million people were displaced.

Loutfi's mother was killed in a mortar explosion at their home in Beirut, which led her family to flee to the mountains, where Loutfi largely taught herself music using a few books.

"As a child, I never wanted to look at the newspaper or watch the news. It was all so tragic," she said.

Loutfi immersed herself in piano study and lessons. Her devotion to music led her to study at the Paris Conservatory, where she became the first woman from the Middle East to earn the Premier Prix. Her education continued at the Banff Centre in Canada and at Indiana University.

Since then, Loutfi has built a career as a concert pianist. Her concert activity has taken her to leading venues across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America, and she has appeared as a soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles.
